JVS Career & Employment, a part of the family of services within JCFS Chicago, is much more than a recruitment resource—it is a strategic workforce partner that helps employers find qualified talent while reducing the time, cost, and effort associated with hiring.

JCFS has long been a trusted resource for Skokie Public Library patrons. In turn, the library has served as such a dedicated collaborator to JCFS that the agency named the library its 2025 Community Partner of the Year.

Alliance Ground International (AGI) has been a strong employer partner to HIAS Immigration & Citizenship, providing cargo, shipping and receiving warehouse positions to candidates—regardless of their English proficiency.

Even highly experienced jobseekers can benefit from working with career counselors at JCFS Chicago. Each person’s path to employment is unique, and everyone needs different kinds of support.

“Our goal is to empower them to find their next adventure,” said Career Counselor Marcy Miller. “We’re here to support them through that process, whatever that looks like.”

JCFS Chicago received an AARP Foundation grant in February to help fund job training for individuals over 50 through Project EM.

To promote the development of employment skills in a supportive environment, the Student Work Program at Knapp School & Yeshiva provides students in grades 6-12 with supervised work experiences in the school and at community work sites.

It’s probably no surprise that jobseekers face emotional challenges while looking for that next position.

“I think a lot of it is the employment marketplace today. People feel qualified and apply to positions, get interviews, maybe second interviews, but never hear from anyone again,” said JVS Career Counselor Sandra Saltzman. “That is a frustration."

John came to JCFS Chicago looking for a part-time job for after school and weekends. John is funny, lighthearted and sports-obsessed, and he wanted to utilize his passion for athletics.
