All relationships can be strained during times of fear and uncertainly – family, friendships, and romantic relationships.

Rapper T.I. is being criticized after recently revealing that he asks his daughter's doctor if her hymen is intact. His behavior, and obsession, over his daughter’s virginity is more than troubling – it also goes against what we stand for at Response for Teens.
 

There’s a new teen drama on HBO that parents will want to know about. Euphoria follows "a group of high school students as they navigate drugs, sex, identity, trauma, social media, love and friendship." Euphoria will no doubt attract a teen audience. JCFS Chicago Response for Teens encourages parents and caregivers to watch Euphoria – and other teen-oriented shows – with your children. Here are some additional tips for talking with your kids about provocative media.

Congratulations to all the teen participants and adult leaders on another successful Operation Snowball 2019! At the end of February teens from across Chicagoland came together to participate in Operation Snowball, our annual winter teen retreat planned entirely by teens.

JCFS is formulating a support group, Queer Teens Connect, for teens between 15-17 years-old who identify as LGBTQ+. The purpose of this group is to provide a safe and constructive space to explore the issues confronting teens in the context of healthy peer relationships.

I was recently introduced to two extraordinary groups of young people. One came in the form of a community meeting of the Between Friends Learning Collaborative which brings together providers who work toward ending intimate partner violence. The other is a group of young researchers, exploring social issues important to them as part of JUF's Research Training Internship (RTI).

Oh, the holidays. They can be filled with joy and excitement … or stress and frustration … or all of those things at once. For people with eating disorders like anorexia, bulimia, or binge eating, this time of year can be particularly upsetting. Constant exposure to lots of food and lots of people can raise great fears and challenges.

October 11th is National Coming Out Day, a time to celebrate anyone who announces their LGBTQ identity. Coming out takes courage, pride, and self-esteem. For some, it is a joyful experience, filled with support and acceptance from family and friends. For others, it can be scary or even risky.
