When Ally Frank began her internship with JCFS Chicago’s Jewish Community Services program last fall, she didn’t know what to expect. The internship would focus on community social work and outreach—areas that differed from both her prior experiences and her long-term career goals, which centered on micro and clinical practice.

As one of the pillars outlined in the agency’s Strategic Plan, Catalyze reflects our commitment to accelerating impact by transforming how our services are delivered. By leveraging our partnerships with organizations such as the JCC, The Ark, Keshet, and CJE SeniorLife (CJE), JCFS Chicago has expanded its reach, strengthened community connections, and better met the needs of those we serve.

The following examples highlight just a few of the many ways JCFS works with community partners to expand access to services and enhance support for people of all ages and abilities.

Albany Park, pushkes, and praising his husband’s life have all influenced board member Mitch Kaufman to give generously to JCFS Chicago. 

Every year, JCFS Chicago partners with six synagogues in the Lakeview, Edgewater, and Gold Coast neighborhoods to host a Shabbaton. This year’s theme: The Ripples of Divorce through the Lifespan, addressed both the experiences of individuals and families across generations, while equipping clergy with practical tools for support.

Ask Andrew if he enjoys the applause he receives after a performance and you’ll get to see his face light up. Andrew, who lives in an integrated community living home supported by JCFS Chicago, has been acting for several years, most recently as Dr. Frankenstein in a production with A.B.L.E.—Artists Breaking Limits & Expectations.

JCFS has long been a trusted resource for Skokie Public Library patrons. In turn, the library has served as such a dedicated collaborator to JCFS that the agency named the library its 2025 Community Partner of the Year.

On any given school day, Knapp School & Yeshiva students in Troye Evers’ transition program can be found working at a coffee shop, senior center, library or food pantry. Each experience is designed to help students gain confidence, independence, and the practical tools they will need for life after school.

Several residents supported by JCFS have been participating in book clubs – first via Zoom, at the beginning of the pandemic, and eventually in person at the Skokie Public Library.

During Mental Health Awareness Month in May, we reflect on the impact that open, honest conversations can have on breaking down barriers and bridging the gap of understanding mental health for those in our community.

Whatever issue matters to you—immigration, LGBTQ rights, disability inclusion, mental health care, the economy, infrastructure, public safety, or the environment—it has been dealt a serious blow by the executive orders issued this past week.
