As we continue to exist in a “socially distanced” world, we are eager to provide your child with an opportunity for safe socialization and support around navigating friendships and emotions. This year we are planning to offer groups for children over telehealth (video). Our plan this year is for our groups to start in late October and run through the 2020-2021 school year with breaks over holidays.

This group was developed to help your child participate in a fun family activity and develop a lifelong skill, baking! Similar to our “I Can Cook” group, each week a new recipe will be featured while focusing on hand strength and dexterity needed to open containers, using utensils, mixing, pouring, etc. These skills also enhance academic and self-care skills.

They will learn to defeat cartoon characters who embody different social challenges such as Rock Brain, who makes people get stuck on their own ideas, Body Snatcher, who moves people’s bodies away from the group, and Topic Twistermeister, who makes people jump off topic.

Have you discovered a book about grief that is helping or has been meaningful to you in your grief journey? Whether your loss is recent or several years ago, we invite you to share a title or author whose work has spoken to you. Or ask about one you’ve been thinking about. It can be fiction or nonfiction, poetry or prose. We will also bring books from JCFS’ library as well as a bibliography and other grief resources for further exploration. In our hour together, through literature of all types, we will learn and support one another in the grief process.
