As we continue to exist in a “socially distanced” world, we are eager to provide your child with an opportunity for safe socialization and support around navigating friendships and emotions. This year we are planning to offer groups for children over telehealth (video). Our plan this year is for our groups to start in late October and run through the 2020-2021 school year with breaks over holidays.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a third-wave behavioral psychotherapy that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, psychosis, and chronic pain.  ACT integrates mindfulness skills with values-guided living. It helps clients develop a compassionate relationship to painful thoughts and feelings versus attempting to avoid or control them.  This shift allows clients to focus instead on clarifying personal values and using that knowledge to take action that promotes a rich, meaningful life.

This group was developed to help your child participate in a fun family activity and develop a lifelong skill, baking! Similar to our “I Can Cook” group, each week a new recipe will be featured while focusing on hand strength and dexterity needed to open containers, using utensils, mixing, pouring, etc. These skills also enhance academic and self-care skills.

Looking for a fun way to learn social awareness, communication skills, and self-regulation? The Social Superhero Training Academy is open! In this speech-language pathologist-lead group, children will use Social Thinking Curriculum to learn to be flexible-thinking superheroes. They will learn to defeat cartoon characters who embody different social challenges such as Rock Brain, who makes people get stuck on their own ideas, Body Snatcher, who moves people’s bodies away from the group, and Topic Twistermeister, who makes people jump off topic.
