8 Ways to Entertain, Educate & Stimulate Your Child At Home

Everyday household activities can be great learning opportunities. They help get the daily chores done while having fun together!

Hands-on experiences that allow toddlers and older children to safely imitate the world around them are some of the best learning moments. The following activities let a child take pride in being the helper, while promoting brain growth and development. They also enhance language learning, understanding sequences, sensory play and motor development.

Here are some ideas from our expert therapists at Integrated Pediatric Interventions. Remember, adult supervision is necessary for safety, but also to help with the learning.

  1. Pull a stool up to the sink and help wash dishes
  2. Wash the fruits and vegetables in preparation for meals
  3. If standing at the sink isn't an option, a bowl of water, a wet towel on the floor or in a highchair works great too!
  4. With child safe utensils, children can help cut, scoop and pour food during cooking. If that's not an option, give your child some plastic cups and spoons to play with in the kitchen while you cook
  5. Help set the table. Start with just the napkins and placements and build from there as your child’s motor and safety skills grow
  6. Put laundry in the washer and dryer, then match socks by color
  7. Dust cloths and paper towels are great fun for kids to help wipe up the spills or dust the table
  8. Help water plants
