Story Sharing: Meet the JCFS Foster Care Team

LaSonya Reed started with JCFS Chicago in December 2019 as Case Manager Supervisor. Her motivation to pursue a career in child welfare started with her own appreciation for the service coordinator at her children’s day care center.  This piqued her interest in wanting to help others connect with supportive and helpful resources. LaSonya enjoys being part of a team that is working together to keep kids safe, while contributing to their growth and development. She also appreciates her team as they grow in their work together. “Our child welfare team is committed to supporting both foster and biological parents, and to helping families that might not be aware they need help.”

LaSonya offers this advice for caregivers. “Be okay with whatever avenue presents itself.  Permanency looks different for each child and family.  Utilize your resources to meet kids where they are.  Kids should leave your care in a better place.”

In her free time, LaSonya practices self-care through yoga, exercise, and meditation. She also attends an annual prayer retreat and celebrates her birthday all month long.
