In this occupational therapist-lead class, children will learn strategies to be flexible-thinking superheroes. Practice these new social superhero powers by reading stories, playing games, making crafts, and more! This 6-week class is offered at our clinic in Northbrook.

It's not a club anyone wants to be a part of, but if you are a person in their 20s or 30s who has lost a parent, sibling, or partner, sometimes it's good to be with people who get it.  Co-sponsored by Mishkan Chicago, Silverstein Base Chicago, and JCFS Chicago, this group meets monthly to share memories of our loved ones and discuss our experiences of grief in a supportive space.

Non-Death Loss and Grief: Unique Issues and Clinical Implications

Grief occurs after the death of someone we love, and it is also manifest in the midst of losses that may not be as obvious or easily described. Clients come to us while dealing with issues such as dementia, infertility, family estrangement or divorce. These are living losses—the loss experiences and their accompanying ambiguity that we must learn to live with as we continue with our lives. Some living losses are readily apparent, such as the loss of functionality, loss of roles, or the absence of loved ones through other means than death.
