Get Involved

Volunteer with HIAS Immigration and Citizenship and help individuals prepare for and successfully complete their citizenship interview and exam.

  • Tutor individuals in Civics and English
  • Conduct one-on-one practice interviews
  • Instruct a series of group citizenship classes
  • Provide in-office interpretation, or accompany individuals to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service during naturalization interviews

Current opportunities:
 

Citizenship Tutor/Mock Interviewer:
Tutor a client 1:1 in Civics and English in order to help them prepare for their citizenship exam, or engage individuals in practice interviews in order to help them prepare for their citizenship interview. These activities are scheduled on an as-needed basis, according to the clients’ and interviewees’ schedules.

Group Citizenship Class Instructor:
Instruct a series of citizenship classes in order to help individuals prepare for and successfully complete their citizenship interview and exam. Volunteers must be available to teach two hours/week for eight consecutive weeks, and must first attend an instructor training.

Translation/Interpretation (Russian/Spanish):
Provide in-office interpretation, or accompany individuals to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service during naturalization interviews.
