Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation | Educators & Other Professionals
This workshop begins with some basics, including the difference between sexual orientation and gender identity and definition of terms (gay, lesbian, pansexual, transgender, queer, etc.). We then discuss concrete steps that educators can take to create safe, inclusive, and comfortable learning environments for students of all genders and sexual orientations. Finally, we practice several activities that can be used with students to open up exploration and discussion of these topics.

JCFS Chicago is formulating a support group, Queer Teens Connect, for teens between 15-17 years-old who identify as LGBTQ+. The purpose of this group is to provide a safe and constructive space to explore the issues confronting teens in the context of healthy peer relationships and to provide access to crucial sources of support in their lives. Learn more about this group or download the flyer. If you have any questions about Queer Teens Connect, or would like to join it, contact Crystal Thomas.
