Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a third-wave behavioral psychotherapy that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, psychosis, and chronic pain.  ACT integrates mindfulness skills with values-guided living. It helps clients develop a compassionate relationship to painful thoughts and feelings versus attempting to avoid or control them.  This shift allows clients to focus instead on clarifying personal values and using that knowledge to take action that promotes a rich, meaningful life.

We will review the second edition of “ACT Made Simple” by Russ Harris and incorporate experiential exercises, role plays and case presentation to learn the tools of this treatment model. Methods of integrating the model into brief treatment work will be woven into the seminar.  Participants may retake the seminar, understanding that the didactic content will repeat. A minimum of 6 participants required to start the seminar.
