Therapeutic Day School Aide Goes Above and Beyond to Help Student
This is Meg Butler, an aide at the JCFS Therapeutic Day School (TDS), standing next to her boyfriend Arlan DeRoussy on what seems like an ordinary afternoon along Lake Michigan. On Labor Day, the day before the start of a new school year, a TDS student was riding her bike along this spot with her father when suddenly the bike detached from its hinge and plunged the student into 12 feet of water! Thankfully, her father and nearby bystanders pulled the student to safety.
The student's Mom reached out to the TDS team the next day informing them of what had happened. When Meg received this information, she took it upon herself to return to the site and attempt to locate the student's sunken bike. Equipped with an underwater camera and a home-made hook, Meg and Arlan (after some trial and error) successfully fished out the bike and returned it to the student.
Our staff does amazing things for their students, no matter what lengths they have to take. We salute you, Meg!
