Service Projects at Firefly Teen Camp
By Sydney Glass, Camp Firefly Unit Head
One aspect of Firefly Teen Camp is the service project which gives teen campers an opportunity to mentor future campers and give back to the Camp Chi grounds. The teens love being able to work with the younger Firefly campers to make an impact on their campgrounds.
Last summer’s projects included creating benches for camp and promoting recycling for a more environmentally friendly camp experience. The campers love to use any outlet to let their creativity shine. The teens painted and illustrated beautiful benches that were donated to camp for all to use.
Another aspect of service we focused on last summer was the environment. The campers created recycling bins and made signs to promote recycling around camp. They turned it into a recycling competition and at the end of the summer there was so much improvement around the campgrounds. It was really cool for the campers to see the impact they had made in just two weeks.
