Body Image and Eating Disorders | Grades 6–12

This program for grades 6–12 not only focuses on the most common forms of eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating) but opens up discussion of why teens suffer from such serious and life-threatening illnesses and what contributes to negative body image. We discuss self-esteem, family and peer influences, and the role of media, advertising, and Photoshop. Through an interactive process using personal reflection, pictures, videos, and more, we open up a safe environment for teens to reflect on body image and the media’s portrayal of idealized bodies.

Finally, we discuss action steps for building self-confidence and educating others.
