Seeing a professional therapist can be an necessary step toward coping with a life transition.

We ask our friends to avoid judging a book by its cover. We tell our children that it’s “what’s inside” that counts most.  We move through life trying to see the “inner beauty” of fellow human beings. Yet, when it comes to our health, we often rank our mental well-being – what’s inside – behind our physical well-being. We are much more likely to treat a physical scar than an emotional one.


The truth is that our mental health is as important as our physical health.  Consider this:

  • 1 in 4 Americans experience a mental health disorder every year
  • More than 46% of children ages 13-18 will experience a mental illness at least once during their lives
  • Nearly 50% of US adults will experience mental illness at least once during their lives
