We see the whole person. We believe everyone deserves a life of dignity, purpose and fulfillment.
A real home. A job to take pride in. A fulfilling social life. People with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) want what everyone wants: a place of their own to live, something rewarding to do during the day, and to spend time with friends.
Encompass forges innovative partnerships among service providers and the community to make this—and much more—possible for adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
Guided by a philosophy of person-centered care and the principle that any planning should be done hand in hand with people with disabilities, not for them, Encompass seeks to provide adults with I/DD a full array of financially sustainable, community-based services and supports, including:
CILAs and consumer-directed residences
Encompass is working with JCFS and other Jewish agencies to expand capacity for person-centered group homes and with community partners to create new residential models and options.
Customized employment placements
Funding secured by Encompass provides Jewish adults with disabilities access to JVS Chicago's Customized Employment comprehensive discovery process that considers the adult’s unique interests, skills and strengths, provides pre-employment training and upon placement, a job coach.
Robust, social/recreational program with inclusion opportunities
Funded by Encompass and operated by Keshet, this program offers a full array of activities and inclusive events 3-5 days each week across the city, near north and northern suburbs, frequently at JCC Chicago locations. View our Social-Recreational Calendar
Judaic observance and synagogue inclusion opportunities
In partnership with JUF, a community outreach, research and planning effort is underway to make our synagogues and congregations more inclusive.
Advocacy efforts & community outreach to develop resources
Encompass advocates at the state and national level for increased funding and improved access to services and supports, including for more affordable housing options. Current advocacy projects (includes Task Force)
Encompass is proud to partner with the following organizations: Jewish Child & Family Services, Jewish United Fund, JVS Chicago, JCC Chicago, Keshet, The Center for Enriched Living and Center for Independent Futures.
