Approximately 18 million children in the U.S. live in a home with a parent who is struggling with a substance use disorder. Many assume a code of silence because they don’t want to appear disloyal to their parent. The challenges faced by these children are often not apparent or behavior issues are misdiagnosed. This session will provide techniques for identifying and assessing children impacted by parental substance use disorder. Strategies for supporting children and helping them build positive skills and resiliency will be discussed.

Our kids are growing up in a world very different than previous generations. They have easy exposure to pornography (90% of kids ages 8-16 have seen pornography online) and cultural attitudes towards “hooking up” often impact their sexual development and safety.

In this introductory workshop we will learn practical, accessible Jewish meditation practices for helping us work with difficult times in life – such as bereavement, addiction, illness and other experiences of loss, fear and pain. Together, and with a contemplative framework, we will turn to Jewish wisdom for supporting us as we live in the midst of challenge. This workshop does not require any meditation experience or any particular backgrounds or orientations
of Jewish observance, but will offer periods of meditation practices that one can easily integrate into one's life.
