The Healing Shofar is a workshop for bereaved people who are anticipating the major Jewish Fall Holidays after the death of a loved one. Please join Josh Magariel, LCSW, Social Work Manager of Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care and Rabbi Joe Ozarowski, D.Min., BCC, Rabbinic Counselor and Chaplain of Jewish Child and Family Services, for information on the grief process, strategies for coping with loss on the Holidays, some reflective Torah texts on the Days of Awe, ways to memorialize your loved one and ideas to help you move forward at this Yomtov season.

The Duman Startup Accelerator is JVS Chicago’s 6-week accelerator for start-up entrepreneurs. The Duman Startup Accelerator helps aspiring entrepreneurs launch their new business by providing the tools and resources to help participants articulate their vision and business model. Participants will learn to develop an opportunity, identify start-up costs, and launch a successful business.

Supported by a community network, Duman Startup Accelerator participants will leave the program with a completed business plan, access to financing, and confidence to pursue their own venture.

This presentation will focus on navigating the transition to college for students with special needs such as Autism, Learning Disabilities, and Anxiety and Depression. Topics will include how to maximize transition programs in high school, discussion of IEPs and 504 plans, requesting accommodations from a college or university, and learning about legal protections for someone with a disability in higher education.

This workshop is designed for business owners and entrepreneurs who are ready to create a business plan or product pitch.

A business plan is your blueprint for business success; a tool to test and validate your ideas and communicate your plan to potential partners and funders. Topics include identifying the audience, understanding the competition, researching and marketing your product, and using financial tools. Participants will leave the workshop energized and ready to write an engaging plan.

Sibshops offer brothers and sisters of children with special needs an opportunity to meet other siblings in a relaxed, supportive, and recreational setting. Participants share common joys, common concerns, and learn to handle sibling-specific "sticky situations." Sibshops are a mix of games, discussion, food, and fun!  Registration is per Sibshop.

Sibshops are currently offered one Sunday afternoon each month in Northbrook. Teen Sibshops are offered as requested.
